The Pillowman

Saturday, February 26, 2011, 8pm
Prosser Studio Theater

Senior Project of Nathaniel Nelson (Drama '11).  Edgy and enthralling, The Pillowman blends black comedy and mystery until “whodunit” is the least of your concerns.  A man tells creepy stories to entertain his mentally challenged brother—but then grisly murders that mirror these tales slice through town, and two cops come knocking. The Pillowman mesmerized audiences and critics during its London and Broadway runs.  The Pillowman received the 2004 Olivier Award for Best New Play, the 2004-5 New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best New Foreign Play, and two Tony Awards for production.

"Energizing…a blindingly bright black comedy…[what makes] the unsettling and exhilarating new play from Mr. McDonagh…so gripping as theater is how narrative art becomes the play's and the character's very life blood." —The New York Times.

"[McDonagh is] a dangerously prodigious master of theatrical form with a talent that goes far deeper than most people understand…THE PILLOWMAN [is] thoroughly startling and genuinely intimidating." —Chicago Tribune.

"McDonagh's least forgiving, bravest play." —Variety. "A complex tale about life and art, about fact and illusion, about politics, society, cruelty and creativity." —Financial Times.
